Mission Statement - Africa Human Security Working Group
We are a group of concerned U.S. and Africa based organizations and individuals opposed to the role of AFRICOM and U.S. military policy in U.S. engagement with Africa. Current U.S. Africa policy privileges the protection of a narrowly-defined set of national interests and includes the financing, training, and equipping of militaries with poor political and human rights records, thereby undermining national and global security. Our vision is of a foreign policy that, informed by true human security needs, prioritizes development and diplomacy conducted by the appropriate civilian agencies and is grounded in genuine partnership with the AU, African governments, the African diaspora, and most importantly, African civil society.
